Praise Jesus, I love you. Hello, may all who love and support Haiti Kkottdongnae receive all the blessings that the great Lord has to offer.
In February, six teenage volunteers from Kkottdongnae Korea came to our village here in Haiti for two weeks as part of a missionary trip. The volunteers were well prepared for their visit to Haiti by having volunteered in a Korean nursing home and finishing a part of their religious retreat studies. Upon their arrival to Haiti, they proceeded to bathe the elderly and re-paint the houses of our village. They spent a busy two weeks here. By taking a break from their complex personal situations, our teenage volunteers were able to experience the simple innocence and joy that our elderly residents had towards them. Through this innocence, the volunteers were able to feel the Lord’s pure love.
Apart from their daily physical volunteer duties, a block of time was also reserved for personal reflections, discussions, and confessions. Through this, the young missionaries were able to remember and appreciate the love that God had for them. After a productive and fulfilling two weeks, the volunteers left with heavy hearts back to Korea. Although their personal situations back home may haven’t changed, I am hopeful that our volunteers are no longer afraid to take steps forward knowing that God is by their side.
Kkottdongnae Haiti also has volunteers and missionaries visit from the United States as well. The New Jersey Demarest parish have already come twice to our village. Our Father Changyong Jeong of Kkotdongnae Haiti, who used to be classmates with Father Jong-Kwan Baek of Kkottdongnae New Jersey first brought a group of young volunteers from his church to visit Haiti last summer. After seeing the positive changes it influenced on those kids last year, he brought them to serve in Haiti again this year. The young volunteers from Korea and the United States, who are used to surviving in a high pressure and competitive environment, are full of anxiety upon their first arrival to Haiti. It is always nice to see them relax and rediscover the leisure of time over the days of their stay. Away from their personal worries and dilemmas, they are able to experience a simpler kind of happiness by simply greeting the residents of Kkottdongnae and feel God’s love surrounding them.
Youth today have to deal with many pressures and uncertainties in life, which troubles them with a seemingly endless sea of worries. Haiti Kkottdongnae strives to become a kind of “God’s Healing Camp” for these young citizens by offering them a place of rest in God’s arms.
Kkottdongnae Haiti will keep working towards the ideal world, in which there is not one person forgotten and abandoned. Please support our village build an intensive care center by donating US $8 which will fund the cement needed for construction.
